Netalie Shloim

I am an Associate Professor in Counselling and Psychotherapy in the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds, where I contribute particularly to the MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy programme. I teach and supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students across professions within the School, and hold leadership roles including Professional Lead for Counselling and Psychotherapy and Academic Unit Director – Nursing.

My teaching and research interests focus on maternal well-being, body image and self-esteem, eating behaviours and eating disorders, attachment, neurodiversity, and parent–infant interactions around feeding and care. I welcome PhD applications from students interested in these areas.

Alongside my academic work, I am actively involved in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives, including work on staff wellbeing, psychological safety in academic environments, and inclusive educational practices within higher education and clinical training.

I hold an MA in Psychodrama from Lesley University (USA), an MSc in Nutrition and Obesity from the University of Leeds, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Leeds. I am a trained psychotherapist and a registered member of professional bodies including the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Psychodrama Association (BPA).

I bring over 25 years of clinical experience, working with individuals and families experiencing obesity, eating disorders, addictions, trauma, and relational difficulties, and have extensive experience supervising Master’s students and trainees in psychology, psychotherapy, and psychodrama.

My work is characterised by strong international collaborations in research and training, and a commitment to integrating clinical practice, research, and education to improve mental health understanding and care across disciplines.
