We studied 1,709 aged care homes over five years and found increases in the use of ‘agency’ staff impacted quality of care. Ahead of the federal jobs summit, the sector faces ongoing challenges.
Only a fraction of aged care homes currently have staffing levels above the new minimum ratios that will be mandatory from next year.
There will need to be substantial increases in staffing across the sector in the next two years.
