- Director, Center for Terrorism and Security Studies; Assistant Professor of Criminology and Justice Studies, UMass Lowell
I am the Director for the Center for Terrorism and Security Studies (CTSS) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. I have worked in a series of applied roles in both the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense and Police. For my experimental research on military and police decision-making I was the recipient of the American Psychological Associations’ (APA) Research Award. I have recently secured over $500,000 in funding from the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences to expand my work on decision-making and incorporate high-fidelity neurological measures to investigate individual differences in decision making, as well as the psychological processes that underlie least-worst decision-making. In 2017, I was also awarded a Department of Defense Minerva Initiative Grant as Principal Investigator (over $700,000) and >$1 million from the National Institute of Justice for my work on countering-violent extremism.
