• Associate Professor, Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto, University of Toronto

Neil Seeman is a Senior Fellow of Massey College, an associate professor in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the University of Toronto, and a Fellow of The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. He serves as Senior Academic Advisor to the Investigative Journalism Bureau at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and as knowledge translation lead to the Health Informatics, Visualization, and Equity (HIVE) Lab at the University of Toronto.

An Internet entrepreneur, Seeman invented and patented random domain intercept technology, a form of Web intercept survey for inclusive global data collection -- to capture emergent risk and trends, and to target campaigns for underrepresented populations across the world. This led Seeman to found the Big Data and AI-focused firm RIWI in 2009. He was CEO of RIWI, which in 2020 went public on the TSX Venture Exchange, until September, 2021. He is active in several entrepreneurship and mentorship programs, including serving as a faculty mentor at Vernissage Health, in partnership with IHPME & Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He co-founded the Health Strategy Innovation Cell at Massey College in the University of Toronto

Neil has published his research on mental health and health policy topics in Nature, Synapse, CMAJ, and in other leading academic journals. He is the co-author of many books on mental health, including XXL: Obesity and the Limits of Shame, which was a finalist for the Donner Book Prize and was selected as an “outstanding” title by the University Press Books Committee. He is the author of the 2023 book, "Accelerated Minds: Unlocking the Fascinating, Inspiring, and Often Destructive Impulses that Drive the Entrepreneurial Brain" (Sutherland House Books). He is the co-founder and publisher of Sutherland House Experts, a press focused on amplifying the voices of quiet experts writing compelling non-fiction for a general, international audience.
