Neil Humphrey is the Sarah Fielden Chair in Psychology of Education at The University of Manchester and former Research Co-ordinator (2013–16) and Head (2016–20) of the Manchester Institute of Education.

His research focuses on what we mean by mental health, why mental health matters, what matters for mental health and what works for mental health in children and young people. Funders of this work include the National Institute for Health Research, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Education Endowment Foundation.

Neil is the author of Social and Emotional Learning: A Critical Appraisal, published by Sage.
