Nayanika Mathur is a Lecturer and British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in Social Anthropology at the University of Sussex. She is additionally a Research Fellow on a Leverhulme-funded project exploring the relationship between conspiracy and democracy at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), University of Cambridge. Her first book, Paper Tiger: Law, Bureaucracy, and the Developmental State in Himalayan India (Cambridge University Press 2016), makes an ethnographic case for re-assessing the nature and performance of the Indian state.
