- Independent Researcher, Indiana University
Dr. Nathan J. Robinson is an accomplished marine biologist with considerable experience in conducting ‘viral’ outreach campaigns for ocean conservation. In 2015, he was filmed removing a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s nose and this video has now been viewed over 100 million times on YouTube. Moreover, the success of this video is often acknowledged as a crystallization moment for many anti-plastic campaigns and has instigated global behavioral change. In 2019, he also recorded the first footage of the giant squid – otherwise known as the fabled ‘kraken’ – in US waters. This story made headlines in over 400 international news sources including the front-page of The New York Times.
