Dr. Kropf's area of research is late life caregiving relationships with a specific focus on older adults in care provider roles. Her research includes custodial grandparents, parents of adults with intellectual disabilities, and families who care for adults with severe mental illness. As a gerontologist, she focuses on aspects of family resilience and coping, and interventions to reduce stress involved in care provision.
Kropf's latest book is co-authored with Sherry M. Cummings, Senior Cohousing: A New Forward for Active Older Adults (Springer, 2019). She is the author of over 100 publications in the gerontology and social work literature, and has edited or authored twelve books.
Kropf has degrees from Hope College (BA), Michigan State University (MSW) and Virginia Commonwealth University (PhD).
