Na'ama Carlin

I'm a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Social Sciences at the School of Social Sciences, UNSW. As a teacher, I believe classrooms are a space for students to experience moments of discovery and newfound knowledge of the world and my teaching is oriented around these moments of discovery and learning. My research looks at the Jewish ritual of circumcision to consider how violent acts are embedded within entrenched moral discourses, and offers a new perspective for thinking about violence and the social. I'm also a memoir and sought-after public commentator whose writing has been published in The Lancet, Meanjin, Overland Literary Journal, ABC Religion and Ethics, and The Conversation, among other places.
