Muthumuni Elizabeth Managa

Associate Professor Muthumuni Managa is a Y2-rated researcher and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), as well as a member of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS).

Since joining the University of South Africa, she has secured approximately R4.6 million in competitive research funding nationally and internationally. She is a Fellow of the Science by Women programme, a TWAS–UNESCO Associateship recipient, a University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar, and a beneficiary of the Future Professors Programme.

Prof Managa serves on the Editorial Board of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, a specialty section of Frontiers in Chemistry, and is an executive committee member of the Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE).

She is also a member of the Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (SPP) and Black Women in Sciences (BWIS). Her internationally recognised research focuses on the development of cost-effective and environmentally sustainable water disinfection technologies aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance. This work has led to a UK patent application currently under review, over 80 peer-reviewed publications, and an h-index of 24.

Prof Managa has demonstrated strong postgraduate supervision impact, having successfully graduated 10 postgraduate students to completion to date, contributing significantly to capacity development and research excellence in the chemical and water sciences.
