Mouhammed Ndiaye

I’m currently a PhD candidate in Political Science and Global Studies at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), where I explore how non-state armed groups influence security governance in the Sahel, especially in Mali and Burkina Faso.

My research looks at the role of self-defence militias, and how they fill protection gaps, gain local legitimacy, and sometimes reshape the authority of the state. I’m particularly interested in how these dynamics affect everyday governance and peace efforts.

Beyond my PhD, I’m passionate about questions of hybrid governance, conflict dynamics, and the growing impact of disinformation on security across Africa. I enjoy working at the intersection of research and practice, translating field insights into ideas that can inform real-world policy and strategy.
