Expert on the development of early Christianity, especially in the first five centuries. Author of 'The Early Church' (2009). Currently working on a project 'God and Good Speech', which critically examines the relationship of classical rhetoric and the New Testament in fourth-fifth century Christian authors. I have written extensively on Gregory of Nyssa and on Christian ideas of the end of the world, especially the idea that in the end all people will be saved (Christian universalism).
