Monte Gates graduated with a BS in Experimental Psychology, and a BA in Philosophy from Austin Peay State University (USA). From there, he went on to complete PhD degrees in Anatomy and Neurobiology at the University of Tennessee (USA), and, afterwards, postdoctoral research fellowships at Lund University (Sweden), Harvard University (USA) and Cardiff University (UK). Dr. Gates is currently based in the School of Medicine at Keele University (UK) where he leads Biomedical Sciences, and conducts laboratory research on spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative diseases and brain ageing.
