- Research Fellow, University of Leeds
Currently, I am a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow in Disability Studies, within the School of Sociology and Social Policy, at the University of Leeds. I am the principal investigator of a four-year project exploring disability youth activism across Europe. The project involves four phases of intersecting research methodologies: online survey, semi-structured interviews, facilitated arts-based workshops, and a documentary film.
More information on the project can be found here: https://disabilityactivism.leeds.ac.uk/
My broader research interests are: disability theory, social oppression, resistance practices, accessible infrastructures and technologies, policy processes and analysis, emancipatory research methodologies, and bioethics. My teaching areas include: disability theory, social movement studies, social policy analysis, and research methodologies.
Since 2012, I have had a contributory role on 10 projects that have received grant funding. These projects were on: inclusive education, community mobilisation, accessible housing, hate crime, sexuality, political participation, and humanitarian disaster preparedness. My role in these projects included: adviser, investigator, principal investigator, and supervisor.

I hold policy advisory positions across civil society sector, private sector, government bodies, and non-departmental public bodies. For six years, under two administrations, I served as a confidential and strategic adviser to the UK Government. This included being part of the UK delegation at the Signing Ceremony for the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. I am also a former member of the Disability Advisory Committee at the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Currently, I hold advisory and project management positions within: UK Government, European Commission, British Council, and several human rights organisations in the UK, Belgium, and Sweden.
My policy roles have provided opportunities to work across the globe, including: China, United States, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Croatia.
I am asked regularly to commentate on social issues across various media outlets, including online and national news platforms.
