Borda took his medical studies and specialization in geriatric medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. He earned his PhD in medicine from the University of Stavanger and Stavanger University Hospital, with a thesis titled ''Clinical and Neuroimaging Prognostic Markers in Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia: The Role of Muscle Status and Nutrition.'' Guided by the overarching hypothesis that dementia transcends being solely a brain disorder, his work furnishes compelling evidence that dementia indeed assumes a systemic nature. The manifestations in other bodily parts or systems hold significant implications for the onset and prognosis of dementia. The thesis underscores the vital role played by nutritional and muscle status in the realm of dementia.
