I am a Senior Lecturer in American History at the University of the West of England with a particular interest in organized crime, corporate crime and institutional corruption.
A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, my main publications include : Crime, Crusades and Corruption: Prohibitions in the United States, 1900-1987 (1988), Organized Crime and American Power: A History (2001), and Gangster Capitalism: The United States and the Global Rise of Organized Crime (2005). More recently, Double Crossed: The Failure of Organized Crime Control (2017) was published by Pluto in the U.K. and the University of Chicago Press in the U.S.
