Dr Michael Volgger is Professor with the School of Management and Marketing, Curtin Business School at Curtin University, and Discipline Lead for Tourism, Hospitality and Events. He holds a doctoral degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt in Germany. Prior to joining Curtin University in 2017, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional Development at Eurac Research in Italy. He also held a Visiting Professorship at the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt in Germany (2021) and was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Tourism Research at Wakayma University in Japan (2019-2023).

Michael’s areas of expertise span questions of transformation and innovation in tourism destination management, tourism product development as well as regional development and consumer behaviour. Particular interests include responsible consumer behaviour, development of tourism atmospheres and the governance of the tourism supply side.

Michael is the "Advances in Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research" (ACTHR) Series Co-Editor, and serves as Senior Editor for "Tourism Geographies" and as an Associate Editor for "Frontiers in Sustainable Tourism".
