Dr. Michael Twiss is a limnologist who focuses on the Great Lakes. Professor Twiss was trained in Canada - Hon. BSc (Trent), MSc (Toronto) and PhD (Québec) - and the United States (postdoctoral fellow at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) – and has worked at Toronto Metropolitan University (1998-2002) and Clarkson University (New York) from 2002-2022, where he is Professor Emeritus, and is currently a Professor of Biology at Algoma University. Twiss’s research focuses on aquatic biogeochemistry of trace elements (toxic and nutritive) and nutrients. Dr. Twiss is an associate editor of the Journal of Great Lakes Research, has served as the president of the International Association for Great Lakes Research, and from 2014 to 2025 was a science advisor to the International Joint Commission's Great Lakes Science Advisory Board.
