Michael researches and writes about the social implications of new technologies, including artificial intelligence. He teaches the undergraduate law subject 'Artificial Intelligence, Robots and the Law' and is co-authoring a book of the same name. His current work investigates power relations between AI companies and those that interact with them, and explores notions of abuse of power and trust, and how the law can respond.
