Melanie works at the National Ageing Research Institute as the research assistant for the social control condition of IMPACCT - Improving Mood through Physical Activity for Carers and Care recipients Trial.
While completing a Master of Social Work at RMIT University in 2011 she worked on a project titled Age Encounters, which explored age and intergenerational identity; and co-authored a paper with Briony Dow titled Understanding elder abuse: a social rights perspective.
Having completed a Master of Arts (Editing) in 2006, and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) in 2003, both at the University of Melbourne, Melanie also works as a writer and editor. She is currently working on a book about ageing in Australia titled Who's Afraid of Old Age?
