Mayada Elmaki is a legal and human rights professional with over a decade of experience spanning crisis response, research, advocacy, and legal practice. Licensed to practise law in Sudan, she holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from the University of Essex, along with an LLB and a postgraduate diploma in human rights.
Mayada has worked across the UK, Sudan, Libya, and the Gulf region, collaborating with organisations such as the European Institute of Peace, CHL, Lawyers for Justice in Libya, and Migrant-Rights.org. Her work has focused on crisis leadership, localisation, peacebuilding, women’s participation in conflict resolution, and migrant and refugee rights. She has led qualitative research, conducted key informant interviews, and produced evidence-based reports to influence policy and practice.
Her legal and programmatic expertise is grounded in fieldwork and intersectional analysis, particularly through projects highlighting mutual aid in Sudan’s conflict response, and women’s demands in peace negotiations. She is bilingual in Arabic and English and skilled at building partnerships across diverse institutions.
