Associate Professor Matthew Bourne leads the Precision Athlete research program at the Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology, Griffith University. His multidisciplinary team – comprising research fellows and higher degree research students – develops cutting-edge precision training strategies aimed at optimising athlete health, enhancing performance, and preventing injury.

A/Prof Bourne's research is internationally recognised across the domains of health, sport, and biotechnology, with 75% of his publications appearing in the top 10% most-cited journals. He is ranked among the top 0.3% of global experts in “Leg Injuries” and was named the world’s leading expert in “Hamstring Muscles” by Expertscape in 2023.

His leadership and impact in the field have been recognised through prestigious industry research fellowships from Advance Queensland and MTPConnect, highlighting his dedication to advancing athlete health and high-performance sport through precision science. Matt was also named a 2025 Queensland Flying Scientist, reflecting his commitment to science communication and community engagement, particularly in rural and regional areas.
