Marycarmen Lara Villanueva

  • PhD Candidate, Department of Social Justice Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto

Marycarmen Lara-Villanueva has completed her PhD at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, with convocation pending. Her doctoral research is anchored in anti-colonial and decolonial frameworks and examines the co-constitution of anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism in Mexico, with particular attention to how these logics are produced, circulated, and learned in schools through visual culture. Drawing on theories of racial capitalism and visuality, her work analyzes the role of state-sanctioned educational materials in shaping racialized ways of seeing.
