Maryam Z. Deloffre

Maryam Z. Deloffre is an Associate Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Humanitarian Action Initiative at the Elliott School of International Affairs; a Mercator Fellow at the DFG Research Training Group – Standards of Global Governance (Germany); and was previously an Associate Senior Fellow at Centre for Global Cooperation Research, Universität Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

Her primary research focus is on global and humanitarian governance; the political economy of humanitarian assistance; humanitarian accountability and standard-setting; and locally-led humanitarian assistance. A second area of research centers on non-governmental organizations (NGOs), studying their accountability, legitimacy, and interactions with peers, states, and international organizations. Her forthcoming edited volume with Sigrid Quack, A Relational Approach to NGOs in Global Politics (Oxford, 2025) explores these questions in depth. Her research has been published or is forthcoming in International Studies Review, Review of International Studies, Public Administration and Development, Global Health Governance, PS: Political Science and Politics, and as chapters in edited volumes.

She earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a M.A. in International Relations at l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) in Paris, France, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the George Washington University.
