Mary A. Shiraef

Dr. Shiraef is a independent researcher who studies studies processes of migration, integration, and identity politicization, with a focus on how collective memory takes shape in authoritarian regimes. She is currently (2024) a postdoctoral Lorenz-von-Stein Research Fellow at the University of Mannheim's Centre for European Social Research (MZES).

In addition to her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Notre Dame, she holds a Masters of Literature (MLitt) in International Relations from the University of St Andrews. She was a Visiting Student Researcher in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University (2019-2020), a Dean's Fellow at the University of Notre Dame (2016-2022), a Boren Fellow with the U.S. Department of Defense (2021-2022), a Fulbright-Hays Fellow (2023-2024) with the U.S. Department of Education, and a Title VIII Fellow with the U.S. Department of State (2024).

Her work has been published in the Nature Portfolio.
