Martina Caratelli

I am a geologist and micropaleontologist specialized in the Cretaceous and Paleocene benthic foraminiferal assemblages of shallow-marine environments. My research focuses on the paleoecology of fossil benthic foraminifera and on the paleoenvironmental significance of foraminiferal assemblages. I am particularly interested in how changes in benthic foraminiferal communities reflect climatic fluctuations, sea-level variations, and major paleoenvironmental events.

Currently, my research is focused on:
- reconstructing the diversity patterns of Upper Cretaceous benthic foraminiferal assemblages and evaluating their relationship with climate-driven changes affecting marine ecosystems, with particular emphasis on the order Rotaliida;
- investigating Cretaceous–Paleogene benthic foraminiferal assemblages from northern Patagonia, with the aim of assessing the effects of the first Atlantic marine ingression and the K/Pg mass extinction.
