Martin Underwood

Professor Underwood obtained his medical degree Manchester UK, and trained as a general practitioner in Carlisle UK. He has since worked as a general practitioner in Lusaka, Manchester, The London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and latterly in Coventry. He is Professor of Primary Care research at Warwick Medical School and is an adjunct Professor at Monash University. He is an Honorary Consultant at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.
Professor Underwood's main area of research is into the improved diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal disorders. His portfolio of completed large primary care studies include: exercise & manual therapy for low back pain (UK BEAM), a group cognitive behavioural approach for low back pain (BEST) Topical NSAIDs for knee pain (TOIB), exercise for depression in care home residents (OPERA), supportive self-management for people living with chronic pain (COPERs), and prevention of falls injuries (Pre-FIT).
He is now a clinical trials methodologist working on a broad portfolio of studies across primary and secondary care.
