- Associate Professor of Sensory and Evolutionary Ecology, University of Exeter
My work covers animal sensory systems, behaviour, and evolution, especially vision and coloration in nature. My research work covers a broad range of topics, including animal (especially bird) vision, anti-predator coloration (camouflage, warning signals, and eyespots), avian brood parasitism ('cuckoos'), and communication and animal coloration in general. I have studied a wide range of taxonomic groups, including birds, reptiles, crabs, insects, primates, and even humans, in both the UK and abroad (Africa, mainland Europe, SE Asia). I have also written several books, including a new general audience book 'Cheats and Deceits' (2016, OUP).
