- PhD Researcher in marine and behavioural ecology, University of Wollongong
My professional career in marine science began following my graduation as a research assistant in a marine ecology and ecotoxicology laboratory. I was then presented with the opportunity to work with the Tongan Government's Fisheries Division on an AusAid assignment. Here I worked with the Community Fisheries Section on the implementation of Special Management Areas (SMAs) in outer island communities. At the end of this assignment I gained employment with the Australian Government Department of the Environment as a Fisheries Assessment Officer. I am now in the final stages of a PhD looking at the evolution and maintenance of sociality in a genus of coral reef fish. While conducting my own research, I apply my knowledge and experience of fisheries to casual work with NSW Fisheries. I also maintain a broader interest in the marine environment by contributing my skills toward Project Airship - a beach safety and shark monitoring program in development; and assisting with octopus research occurring in Jervis Bay.
