- Senior research fellow, Adelaide University
Dr Donnelley completed his PhD in Medical Image Processing at the Flinders University of South Australia in 2008. He currently holds a Senior Medical Scientist position at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. His research is primarily focussed on using imaging techniques, including synchrotron phase contrast X-ray imaging, to quantify the effectiveness of genetic and pharmaceutical therapies for cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease, and to create novel airway health measures for respiratory disease. His primary areas of interest are non-invasive in vivo mucociliary transit (MCT) quantification, lentiviral gene therapy development and in studies to elucidate the role of stem cell transduction in producing long term gene expression. Much of his work has been performed at synchrotron facilities such as SPring-8 (Japan) and the Australian Synchrotron (Melbourne). Dr Donnelley’s key achievements lie in the area of non-invasive synchrotron imaging of respiratory processes at scales that have not previously been possible in vivo.
