Marten W. Brienen

Marten W. Brienen has researched Andean history and politics since the mid-1990s, with a Master's Thesis on Bolivian Military Socialism in 1996 and dissertation on the relationship between the state and the indigenous communities in 2011. He lived in Bolivia for two years and a bit and has done extensive research there, as well as in archives in France and the United States. He has written on drug trafficking, violence, resource nationalism, and state instability in Bolivia. He served as academic director of Latin American Studies at the University of Miami from 2011 to 2013, and since 2013 has been at Oklahoma State University, where he spent five years in the department of Political Science until moving to the department of Global Studies in 2018.
