I earned my Ph.D. in Japanese Studies at The University of Manchester while investigating the phenomenon of dansō (female-to-male crossdressers) working as non-sexual escorts in contemporary Japan. I pursued a Postdoc at The Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and I am currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow affiliated with Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna (IT), KU Leuven (BLG), and Hosei University (JP). In my current research project, I explore the development of services provided by women to address the emotional and sexual needs of women in contemporary Japan. My work delves into the relationship and tension between self-expression, intimacy, and their intersection with the neoliberal market from a feminist perspective.
