Marlese von Broembsen is an Associate Professor at the Centre for the Transformative Regulation of Work (CENTROW), University of the Western Cape and a Senior Researcher in Labour Rights at Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO). WIEGO is a global research-advocacy network of organizations of workers in informal employment.
Marlese holds law degrees from the University of Cape Town and Harvard Law School and an M.A. in Development Studies from the University of the Western Cape. Marlese was the first Director of WIEGO's Law Programme and before that was a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Global Law and Policy, Harvard Law School and an Adjunct lecturer at North-Eastern, USA, where she taught law and development. From 2009- 2014 she convened an interdisciplinary Masters programme in Social Justice in the Faculty of Law, University of Cape Town,
Marlese was awarded a Harvard South Africa Fellowship; a David and Elaine Potter Research Fellowship for contribution to civil society; and a National Research Foundation Innovation Scholarship.
