Professor Hamer graduated in Sport and Exercise Science (1996) at The University of Birmingham, completed an MSc in Sports Sciences (1999) at Brunel University and later received his PhD from De Montfort University (2002). He spent eleven years at University College London as a researcher in Epidemiology and Public Health funded by the British Heart Foundation. In 2015 he was appointed as Chair in Exercise as Medicine at the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine. He returned to UCL in 2019 as Professor Sport and Exercise Medicine at Institute Sport Exercise and Health. His main interests are on physical activity and cardiovascular disease prevention.
