- Professor and Head of Chemistry, Curtin University
I am the President of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and Head of the Department of Chemistry at Curtin University.
My experimental research program uses laser spectroscopy coupled with mass spectrometry to investigate the molecular structure of the liquid-vacuum interface and the partitioning of energy as molecules spontaneously evaporate from liquid surfaces. Our latest results are available at Phys.Chem.Chem.Phys, Vol. 14, 9185-9194 (2012) - DOI: 10.1039/c2cp40180k.
Our research program also employs laser-based methods to prepare and explore the properties of metal nanoparticles. Illustrative results can be found in Langmuir, Vol. 29, 12452-12462 (2013). DOI: 10.1021/la402234k.
My computational chemistry research uses electronic structure methods to investigate a variety of chemical processes. As an example, we have used ab initio methods to explore the chemistry of using CO2 as a feedstock for acrylate production. Details can be found at Organometallics, Vol. 26, 6784-6792 (2007) and J. Organomet. Chem., Vol. 693, 2703-2710 (2008).
I am a founder and Director of the Advancing Scienceby Enhancing Learning in the Laboratory (ASELL) project. Details of the ASELL project can be found at www.asell.org.
