- UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, Atmospheric Sciences, University of Sheffield
Maria Val Martin is an atmospheric scientist whose research explores how human activities and natural processes—such as wildfires—affect air quality, atmospheric composition, and climate. She integrates field data, satellite observations, and Earth system models to study atmosphere–biosphere–climate interactions and evaluate land-based climate mitigation strategies.
Maria holds an MEng in Agricultural Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University (USA). She was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University and a visiting scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, before joining Colorado State University as a Research Scientist. Since 2014, she has been based in the UK and is currently a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Sheffield.
