I am a clinician-scientist seeing patients with neurological and systemic complications due to varicella zoster virus (VZV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), and Epstein Barr virus (EBV) at the University of Colorado Hospital, Aurora, CO. These diseases include herpes zoster (shingles), zoster sine herpete (shingles without rash), Ramsay Hunt syndrome, VZV vasculopathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and burning mouth syndrome. My lab investigates mechanisms by which VZV contributes to stroke and dementia, as well as developing new antiviral drugs.
