- Professor Emerita of Psychology, Retired, Chatham University
I have been involved with post-secondary teaching and research since the early 80s. Although I have worked on many projects related to human development over the lifespan, my main field of research has addressed menstrual health and education, especially of young girls. I am a long term member of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research and served in several leadership positions within the organization. Currently I am participating as a volunteer content provider with the online effort of the new Our Bodies Ourselves Today on their Menstruation and Menopause team.
My publications have appeared in Annals of the New Academy of Sciences, Oxford Bibliographies of Childhood Studies, Health Care for Women International, Women & Therapy, Nursing Research, Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering, Women & Health, Journal of Early Adolescence, and more recently in Sex Roles, Women's Reproductive Health, The Palgrave Handbook of Critical Menstruation Studies (2020) and The Routledge International Handbook of Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health (2019).
I have also served as the editor of special issues of various journals over the years,
I also have two published books: Pearson, C. & Stubbs, M.L. Parting company: The Caregiver’s journey: Understanding the loss of a loved one. Seattle, WA: Seal Press, 1999; and Amabile, T. & Stubbs, M. (Eds.) (1982). Psychological research in the classroom: Issues for educators and researchers. Elmsford, NY: Pergamon Press.
A theme of my work has been the translation of research findings for important audiences, including, educators, and parents. As such I would welcome an opportunity to write for The Conversation as appropriate to my work and fields of study.
