Marcus Pearce is Reader in Cognitive Science at Queen Mary University of London and Honorary Professor of Neuroscience at Aarhus University, Denmark. Educated in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, he has made wide-ranging contributions to the scientific literature on auditory perception and cognition including the entry on Music Perception in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Psychology. He has given public lectures at the Wellcome Collection and Royal Institution, run a Live Science residency at the Science Museum and delivered the IEE Faraday Lecture. His collaboration with the London Sinfonietta produced a free iOS app for developing rhythm skills called Steve Reich's Clapping Music, described by the New York Times as "maddeningly addictive". His book Learning to Listen, Listening to Learn published by Oxford University Press examines how the human capacity to take pleasure in listening to music derives from learning through cultural experience.
