Marcelo Ridenti was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1959. After graduating with a degree in social sciences (1982) and law (1983) from the University of São Paulo, he then received his PhD in sociology there in 1989. He has been Professor of Sociology at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) since 1998 and researcher at CNPq (Brazilian Council of Scientific and Technological Development) since 1992.
His research interests lie in intellectual activism as well as left-wing political parties and movements in Brazil.
