Mandy is a research fellow in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University. She works on a diverse range of projects examining and addressing the social determinants of health, specifically social inequalities related to race/ethnicity, health service access and gender inequality. She is interested in culture, race, diversity and inclusion, particularly as it relates to health care provision and patient-practitioner communication. Mandy is also interested in the intersection of gender, race, religion and class on a broad range of societal issues such as health service access and family violence.
Mandy received her PhD in public health at the University of Melbourne in 2016. Her doctoral research involved a case study of organisational cultural competence in a community health setting. She completed her MPH in 2010 and has also been a practicing optometrist for over 15 years.
