Dr Madeleine Seys is a Research Fellow in the Department of English, Creative Writing and Film at the University of Adelaide where she researches fashion, literary, and visual cultures from the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries.
Her extensive publication record explores questions of identity formation and storytelling in relation to gender, sexuality and material cultures. Her first book "Fashion and Narrative in Victorian Popular Literature: Double Threads" was published by Routledge in 2017. Madeleine's work has also been published in "Artlink", AGSA's "Radical Textiles" and various scholarly journals.
Madeleine also works as a consulting fashion historian and curator, bespoke tailor, and textile conservator. She was a featured expert on the ABC's "The Way We Wore" (2024). She is currently writing a fashion history of South Australia and sewing clothes for her family.
