Dr Madeleine Pape (she/her/hers) is a sociologist and Olympian who competed for Australia in the 800m at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Pape completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 and is currently an Ambizione grant holder at the University of Lausanne's Institute of Social Sciences, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2027, she will join the University of Lausanne's Institute of Sports Sciences as an Associate Professor of Regulation and Integrity in Sport. Her research areas include: integrity in sports governance; the study of sex and gender in biomedical and sports sciences; anti-transgender political mobilization; gender equity in sport. From 2022 to 2025, she was employed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support the rollout of the IOC Framework on Fairness, Inclusion and Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sex Variations.
