Madelaine Vanderwerff

(she/they)

I have worked across a wide range of library contexts throughout my career, including government, corporate, film, special, and academic libraries. I have held elected leadership roles as Chair of both the Foothills Library Association (FLA) and the Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL), and have also served in leadership and committee roles with several national professional organizations, including CAPAL, CAIS, and CALL.

I have been at Mount Royal University for nearly 12 years, during which time I have served twice as Interim Associate Dean, Collections, and for two years as Copyright Advisor. My work has included liaison support for a range of academic programs, including Anthropology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, General Education, and Environmental Sciences. More recently, I have collaborated with a colleague in Computer Science to develop a General Education learning community focused on artificial intelligence and its implications from both information science and computer science perspectives.

My scholarly work includes several publications and conference presentations delivered nationally and internationally. I am particularly engaged in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), participate in multiple communities of practice, and provide support for the Mokakiiks Centre for SoTL. I am also a strong advocate for open publishing and currently serve on the editorial boards of two peer-reviewed open-access journals.
