- Associate Professor in Aerospace and Autonomous Systems, Queensland University of Technology
Luis Mejias is an Associate Professor at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), specialising in uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs). His research focuses on navigation, control systems, path planning, image processing, and vision-based control, contributing to the development of autonomous technologies that enable UAVs to operate with minimal human supervision. He is particularly motivated by advancing enabling technologies that support the safe and seamless integration of unmanned aircraft into society.
A/Prof. Mejias obtained his Electronic Engineering degree from UNEXPO (Venezuela) in 1999, followed by a Master’s degree in Networks and Telecommunication Services from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2001. He completed his PhD in Robotics and Automation at the same institution, where he developed extensive expertise in UAV systems, particularly autonomous helicopters, focusing on computer vision techniques for guidance, navigation, and control.
He has held an ARC DECRA Fellowship and served as Deputy Director of the Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation (ARCAA). He is currently an Associate Professor and active researcher at QUT.
