Lucy Sors

(She / Her)

I am a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) at York St John University. I am lead for inclusion in ITE and specialise in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), outdoor learning, Early Years and languages. My research focuses on addressing barriers within education.

I joined York St John University following career as a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), school leader and teacher in Primary education. I advocate for inclusive pedagogies that support all children and young people to achieve their potential. As an educator I am passionate about working together with children, young people and families to develop active and creative approaches that foster belonging, community and inclusion.

I am passionate about place-based pedagogy, play and outdoor learning, and advocate for such approaches within education to address barriers to learning and participation. I have recently co-edited a book bringing these ideas together:
Sors, L. and Unsworth, R. (2025). The BERA Guide to Outdoor Learning: place-responsive pedagogy in educational research and practice. Emerald.
