Lochran is an ecologist and conservation biologist based at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom - and holds an Honorary Affiliation with the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He received a PhD from the University of Adelaide, Australia (2009) and was previously a Marie Curie Fellow at Imperial College London (2011-13).
Lochran has a research interest in tropical conservation science, with a focus on large African mammals. He is an associate editor for the African Journal of Wildlife Research, a reviewer with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and a member of the IUCN SSC Hippo Specialist Group.
