Liza is a Chartered (BPS) and Registered (HCPC) Counselling Psychologist working in independent practice with over 17 years of experience (NHS and Independent Practice) of providing assessment and psychological therapy for adults experiencing a wide variety of mental health and life difficulties. She also holds a PhD by research and is a Lecturer in Applied Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University contributing to training on the HCPC / BPS accredited, practitioner doctoral programmes in Counselling Psychology, Health Psychology and Sport and Exercise Psychology.
Her research interests include promoting what she terms Psychologically Informed Medicine to prevent medical trauma and improve mental health, in particular, for the growing population of people with congenital heart disease (CHD). Liza's recent work includes exploring the impact of the hospital gown on patient experience and developing a standardised measure of psychological safety grounded in The Polyvagal Theory.
Over the last ten years, Liza has been a passionate health advocate for improved healthcare, psychological support and social inclusion for people with CHD by voluntarily sitting on various health committees, co-creating the Scarred FOR life photography exhibition and her involvement in projects such as iSupport (an international, rights-based collaborative to support children during medical procedures).
Liza recently co-authored 'Healing Hearts and Minds: A holistic approach to coping well with congenital heart disease' published by Oxford University Press.
