Dr Lisa Mellon is a chartered health psychologist, psychotherapist, and lecturer in the School of Population Health at RCSI. A holder of a National Teaching Hero award (2021), Dr Mellon has expertise in health professions education for health behaviour change. She teaches Health Psychology and Communication Skills for Brief Interventions and Motivational Interviewing to undergraduate medical, pharmacy and physiotherapy students, and to postgraduate healthcare professionals. She was Unit Lead on the development of the HSE National Undergraduate Curriculum for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Part 1: Making Every Contact Count (MECC), and is currently the RCSI Co-Lead for the implementation of MECC in RCSI undergraduate programmes.
Lisa co-founded the Irish Society for Lifestyle Medicine, and is currently the conference lead for ISLM. She leads Lifestyle Medicine undergraduate teaching activities in RCSI, including the Student Choice module, and the RCSI Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine.
Prior to commencing her PhD on the HRB PhD Scholars Programme in Health Services Research in RCSI, she worked in frontline hospital departments, and in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Monash University, Melbourne.
