Lisa M. Katerina Asher

Former industry practitioner turned academic researcher. I have ~20 years experience within FMCG/CPG interfacing with grocery retailers and all other consumer channels across tier 1, tier 2, regional manufacturing and start-up suppliers. I prioritise impact as I seek to solve industry and societal problems through academic research.

I am fortunate enough to undertake my PhD at The University of Sydney which ranks #18 globally in QS rankings for 2025. I commenced in 2022, which was the beginning of the global cost of living crisis. This timing has meant I prioritise impact, as my research is time critical. I engage with industry bodies, suppliers, retailers, regulators, and government, helping solve issues for social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

My cultural values of being Māori (first nations person to New Zealand), mean I undertake my mahi (work) to help progress the western concept of sustainability, with the skills and knowledge I have. The western concept of sustainability has been part of Māori culture and society for many centuries.
